Chimmy’s Favorite Places to Swim in Central Oregon

If you asked her, Ruffwear Ambassador Chimehuin would say that swimming’s not just for summer. This Bend, Oregon, resident might tell you that swimming is one of her favorite activities year round, in rain or shine or snow. Also on her list would be trail running, fly fishing, and riding in a motorcycle side car, but those are stories for another day. To celebrate the season of sunshine and swimming, we asked Chimmy to share some of her favorite local spots for making a splash. Here’s what she had to say:
1. Hosmer Lake
With crystal clear water and inlets to explore, Hosmer Lake is a spectacular place to swim and play.
2. Elk Lake
Elk Lake is one of the most popular bodies of water on a hot summer day in Central Oregon, and for good reason. Clear water and views of South Sister, Broken Top, and Mt. Bachelor make Elk Lake a great place to SUP, kayak, and swim all season long.
3. East Lake
Nestled within Newberry Crater at the base of Paulina Peak, East Lake is a great place for hiking, biking, and camping, in addition to a variety of water activities.
4. Crane Prairie Reservoir
Crane Prairie is a relatively shallow reservoir south of Bend that teems with wildlife, including osprey and bald eagles.
5. Suttle Lake
Suttle Lake is deep and clear, surrounded by a conifer forest near the Three Sisters Wilderness.
