This week, members of the Ruffwear pack will be raising our voices for national treasures that are near and dear to us – our public lands and waterways. We’ll take to the streets in the This Land is Our Land March for Public Lands in Salt Lake City, Utah, an event expected to draw thousands people who support keeping public lands in public hands.

We do so because we believe in protecting wild places where dogs and people go to play. We also know that the future of these places is uncertain.

Like many companies, Ruffwear will this week attend the mecca for all things outdoor recreation, the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City. Last summer, more than 1,600 brands and 29,000 people went to this gathering of what is undoubtedly a powerhouse industry: According to the 2017 Outdoor Recreation Industry Report by the Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor recreation annually supports 7.6 million American jobs and generates $887 billion in consumer spending.

In Salt Lake, Ruffwear will debut new performance dog gear for Fall and Winter 2017, crafted to help make outdoor adventures with our dogs that much more enjoyable. After all, our dogs are our trail mates, biking buddies and paddle partners, and our company’s mission is to enhance and inspire exploration for outdoor adventurers and their human companions. For many, these adventures take place on our public lands.

Therefore, in addition to joining the Salt Lake City march on July 27th, we’ll also demonstrate our support for keeping public lands public in a number of ways:

  • Before the This Land is Our Land march, Ruffwear will host a sign-making event from 2-4 p.m. on July 27th in our booth (#34081). All show attendees are welcome to make a sign to carry in the march, which will go from the Salt Palace Convention Center to the Utah Capitol starting at 4:30 p.m.

  • We’re holding the sign-making event in conjunction with the Oregon Natural Desert Association, or ONDA, a Bend, Oregon-based nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to protecting public lands in Oregon’s high desert. Get a Ruffwear collapsible, waterproof bowl with a $10 donation to ONDA while supplies last.

  • A special leash will also be available at the show benefitting one of Ruffwear’s partners, The Conservation Alliance. The Wildlands™ Leash will be on hand for $10 at the Ruffwear booth and help support The Conservation Alliance’s nationwide land protection and preservation efforts.

  • Back in our hometown of Bend, Oregon, members of our Ruffwear pack will join the local iteration of the This Land Is Our Land March for Public Lands. Similar efforts are taking place simultaneously in cities across the country on Thursday, July 27th.

The notion of public lands is truly one of America’s greatest ideas. We’re fortunate to enjoy wild lands with our canine companions and want to pass this legacy on to future generations. Ruffwear is proud to do our part to support public lands, for this week and beyond.

Will you join us?
