This is the time of year where we start to hear ads on the radio for gym memberships claiming “new year, new you!” We would like to propose that you already have access to the best gym ever, it is free, and it is right outside your door. You can even upgrade your membership to include a personal trainer. For many of us at Ruffwear, that personal trainer is our dog. They motivate us to get outside more frequently, and are willing to go at whatever pace we want to go – or sometimes push us to go faster.
These ads appear because it is also the time of year where we reflect on the past year and we set intentions for the year ahead. For many, these intentions – or resolutions – revolve around fitness, finances or other personal goals. But what if we were to take a step back and ask, “what would our dog’s New Year resolution be?” If you truly ask that question, what do you think their response would be?
Here are a few thoughts on what our dogs would say:
“I am going to run a 10K with my human this year”
“This coming year, my human companion is going to take me on more adventures”
“More cookies in 2015!”
“We will plan at least two road trips for 2015, I love road trips!”
“Can I have a brother?”
“In 2015, I am going to swim in the river, every single day!”
“I’d be ok with a sister too”
“My human and I will check five more peaks off our tick list”
“I will agree to let my human buy a new mountain bike, as long as I get to go on every ride”
