Continuing our exploration of product names (see “What’s in a name? – The Singletrak Pack” for the previous exploration), an occasional source of naming inspiration for us is a symbolic destination or location. Places that we daydream about while we are working, or where we can be frequently found when we are not in the office.
The Mt. Bachelor Pad portable dog bed is one of those products. Its name pays homage to our local ski mountain just outside of Bend, OR.
Mt. Bachelor is a volcanic peak that tops out just over 9,000 feet in elevation and is part of the Cascade Mountain Range. In October of 1958 the ski area officially opened under the name Bachelor Butte, which was the mountain’s original name. 29,000 visitors skied the mountain that first season. The name did not officially change to Mt. Bachelor until 1983 – the same year that the Summit Express chair lift was installed and the mountain saw over 500,000 visitors.
The Mt. Bachelor Pad dog bed is our flagship portable travel dog bed. This bed is the perfect do-it-all bed that can be used at home, in the back of the car as you head to the mountain, next to your desk at the office and outside at your campsite. For the snow and mud-loving dogs, this bed is easy to machine wash and hang dry.
The “Bachelor Pad” reference is probably an homage to the good old days of sitting on the floor of our old apartments reorganizing climbing gear, or packing for our next adventure, with our canine partner-in-crime sleeping next to us, tuckered out from the long day of play.
