It seems like someone just flipped the season switch. One week it was in the mid-eighties and dry as a bone, the next week we woke up to brisk mid-thirty degree temperatures and views of snow blanketing the mountains. It’s not only the temperatures that have changed drastically. Each day, the sun seems to be setting five to ten minutes earlier – as if nature is attempting to threaten our post work runs and mountain bikes rides. Fortunately there are products designed to help us safely extend our adventures well past dusk and into the night. For humans, we don our headlamps and warm synthetic athletic clothing that typically has reflective elements woven or printed on them. The same can be true for your dog (minus the headlamp part – they don’t really need that).

The Ruffwear Track Jacket™ and Beacon™ are just that – gear designed to let you hit the trail running in low-light conditions or run your urban neighborhoods and stay visible to both people and traffic.

trackstitchRedesigned for 2013, the Track Jacket safety dog vest provides a high level of luminescence making it an essential piece of gear for October hikes or after-work runs all winter long. For the redesign of the Track Jacket, we focused on two key areas: easy on/off, and maximum visibility. “The jacket employs active and passive lighting,” says product designer Lindsey Clark. “Active lighting by attaching up to three Beacons with our strategically-placed light loops, and passive lighting when the wide, reflective prints bounce back light from headlamps or car headlights. Our blindingly bright blaze orange fabric meets the European EN471 standard for high visibility.”

Additional features include:

  • Lightweight, low-profile tension hooks provide a quick and secure connection
  • Durable, waterproof fabric
  • Streamlined design is easy to put on and stays in place

Ruff Wear FW11The Beacon is a lightweight, watertight, sturdy, and compact safety LED light that creates a halo of red light around your dog. It clips onto all wearable Ruffwear gear including collars, packs, apparel, life jackets and harnesses. It can even be clipped to your commuter bag to provide visibility for your personal commute to work or around town.

Will you extend your adventures into the low-light conditions of fall and winter? Do so safely with high-visibility gear.

  1. I would buy this if it also functioned as a harness. Why don’t you offer your harness in this fabric? That is a super idea.

  2. It is the best time to make some plans for the future and it’s
time to be happy. I have read this post and if I could
I wish to suggest you few interesting things or advice. Maybe you could
write next articles referring to this article. I wish to read more things
    about it!

  3. Something I would love to see added to the design of this is a hole for dogs who wear a harness. We use a front and back clipping harness and it is really difficult to have the coat over the top of the harness with the lead clipped to the back. A simple design modification but one that would be immensely useful.

    1. Thanks for the feedback Barks & Bunnies! We appreciate comments like this, as we are always looking for functional ways to improve our products. Your feedback has been passed on to the product design team.
