As outdoor enthusiasts, we humans have different jackets for different activities – rain jackets, ski jackets, bike jackets, soft shells, insulated jackets for colder temperatures, base camp coats and maybe even the après, around town coat. Why should your multi-sport, four-legged friend be any different? With a background firmly rooted in outdoor adventure, Ruffwear understands the environmental challenges associated with various alfresco endeavors. We apply this knowledge to our products to design the best performance dog gear available.
This month, we are going to take an in-depth look at our innovative line of technical dog jackets – highlighting a different coat each week, while sprinkling in thoughts from our own Ruffwear Pack on their favorite canine apparel.
As you start to layer for a cool weather adventure, one consistent go-to piece is a soft, warm fleece base layer. Ruffwear has designed the Climate Changer™ to be just that – a lightweight, breathable warm fleece jacket with excellent coverage that dries quickly.
“Echo and I are big fans of the Climate Changer!” says Ruffwear Customer Service Representative Bill Newton. “We like the fact that is so lightweight and packable. This allows us to use it if we need it, but if not, it easily packs away! In addition, the full coverage keeps snowballs off the fur when we use it cross-country skiing. Other things we like about the jacket is the fact that we can attach The Beacon to it and that it insulates when wet – and if it does get wet, it is quick to wring out and dries super quick.”
The Climate Changer was redesigned in 2012 with two goals in mind – keeping dogs warm while reducing the impact on our environment. The polyester fleece is made of 75% recycled materials and is completely recyclable when you are ready to retire it after years of use and abuse. Topping off this simple, yet feature rich layer is a full-length zipper providing a secure fit, integrated reflective trim for increased visibility in low light conditions and a light loop near the neck to attach The Beacon or any other safety light.
Marketing guru Susan had this to say about the Climate Changer: “When I had greyhounds, I used the Climate Changer daily with the dogs in the cold winter months. They actually slept in them at night. It enabled us to keep our house temperature low overnight knowing they were warm on their dog beds wearing their fleece jackets. The fact that the coat has zippers, not buckles, makes them comfortable for dogs to lay in for hours at a time.”
